Ft. Apache Counterattack!

54mm Second Series Marx Cavalry figures spill out the gate of a Heritage Ft. Apache stockade to overwhelm the Indian attackers.

Frogmen vs. Radioactive Octopus!

Here's a neat little set a friend picked up for me about five years ago. The Frog Men are recasts of Marx figures, I'm not sure if the Radioactive Octopus is a recast of some earlier toy. As it says on the box: "created by nature or science?"

Below the picture of the box is an action shot featuring some very early photoshop work by myself.

Marx Pirate

Reissue 60mm Marx Pirate. This is from one of those bags from Mexico that also have figures in blue and purple.

Woodland Battle

These two figures came with the 1978 Ft. Apache with the big free-standing blockhouse. At first I kind of though "blech" when I say the colors, but I kind the blue of the cavalryman now.

Marx Prehistoric Times

Prehistoric Times Playset #3390, series 1000. This was the first dinosaur playset issued by Marx Toys, 1957. This set has a really neat vacuform terrain piece, and this example is in really nice shape. It was pretty easily damaged.

Lookout Mountain

Here's a couple of Marx Civil War soldiers posing on Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, Tennessee. I know they could be almost anywhere, you just have to take my word for it that they are on Lookout Mountain.

Giant Farm Woman

These are from a Marx farm playset, 1950's. I was looking through some of my old shots and was shocked by the giant farm woman.

Marx 45mm Frontiersman. This guy came with the early Ft. Apache and Alamo sets.

Crazy Marx Army Men Poses

Inspired by the blog post The Five Worst Army of All Time [via], I took some snapshots to explain some of this to the fine folks at Metafilter.

If you've read this far, you probably already know this, but below is illustrated one of the great mysteries of my childhood, and I suspect of a few other folks.

I never knew what to do with the guy below. Weird karate dude? What's going on? I didn't have a clue.



Then there was the guy below. At least I could imagine he was flying through the air. I usually ended up hanging on some of the barb wire coils.
